Short description of the activities structure for the R.A.C.C.E. educational program:
1. Introduction: in order to go through with the educational program we should evaluate the level of knowledge and the needs of the specific group of children or the particular circumstances of each country. This step is really important because it will give us the hints to redevelop the steps of the program according to the particular needs.
2. Structure of the earth: the basic knowledge for the earth’s structure that will help the children to perceive the earthquake phenomenon.
3. Continental Drift: a more analytical knowledge of the tectonic plates and how did the earth grow up that way
4. Earthquakes – Volcanoes: expand information for the genesis of earthquakes and the activity of volcanoes and why is it so important to be informed and prepared for those phenomena.
5. Measurements and Prediction: the tools that we use in order to identify these phenomena and if we can predict them.
6. Famous EQ and Volcanic explosions: examples of strong eqs and volcanic explosions that had a large impact in human lives.
7. Preparedness: the objective of the program is this step and the most important one. Various activities that give the right behavior in case of an eq and the ways to be prepared in such a case.
• Prepare: the right materials (kit with disaster supplies), the indoors and outdoors (check for Hazards, Identify Safe Places)
• Prepare myself (psychologically, have the right behavior)
• Deal with my emotions afterwards (when the phenomenon ends)
Evaluation: at the end of the program the children should evaluate the program by recognition of the new information and knowledge that gained through their participation in this educational program
